OUR STORY
Our story began in a Zulu mud hut in Africa. The birthplace of our Founder, Butho Khuzwayo.
Childhood for Butho was financially tough, but abundant with love and blessings from the bush. He spent long hours looking after cattle, where food could always be found in nature’s bounty.
Butho’s childhood taught him "Ubuntu". Ubuntu translates to the belief that sharing connects all humanity. He learnt there is always opportunity to address community needs, and share in the responsibility to create a better situation.
To create is within everyone’s reach, regardless of wealth. You can create your own opportunities, and create beautiful things with whatever materials you have at hand.
Some of the most beautiful handmade goods can be found in rural African communities.

The African Exchange Hub is a place to appreciate the work of rural African artists and creators.

We celebrate their cultures, share their stories, and sell their crafts to be enjoyed in Australian homes.

When you buy a unique piece from one of our community partners, you’ll be helping us to support poverty alleviation initiatives, and contributing to the income of the artists themselves.
